Plastic Surgery Book Review: The Essential Cosmetic Surgery Companion

How Should I Choose a Cosmetic Surgeon?

by Kathleen Lisson, CMT, CLT

The book The Essential Cosmetic Surgery Companion by Robert Kotler, MD, FACS is an excellent resource for patients just beginning to do their research on which doctor should perform their plastic surgery. Dr. Kotler advises that clients choose a 'superspecialist,' a physician with advanced training that limits his or her practice to only cosmetic surgery (versus reconstruction or birth defects).

What do I ask on the phone or in the consultation with a plastic surgeon?

The biggest value in this book is the extensive lists of questions Dr. Kolter recommends that potential plastic surgery clients ask cosmetic surgeons during the initial consultation. With this book in hand, potential clients can gather the information they need to screen which doctors to meet with for a consultation as well as which doctor to choose for the procedure itself.

In this video, Dr. Kotler talks about how to choose a cosmetic surgeon:

The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery also put together a list of questions to ask a plastic surgeon here: http://www.americanboardcosmeticsurgery.org/5-essential-questions-for-cosmetic-surgery-consult/
